Where does the seafood on that dinner plate come from?

Posted by Malin Pinsky | Oslo, Norway

Seafood is a global business with, in most cases, a large number of intermediate organizations between the fisher and the consumer. It becomes very difficult to track where a particular fish came from, and studies of mislabeling tend to show a high proportion of mislabeled seafood (often to increase the value of the product). Mislabeling can also be used to bypass regulations and hide seafood caught illegally. How do we do a better job tracking the source of our seafood?
