Take initiative to clean the Great Pacific Garbage Patch

The Great Pacific garbage patch is an alarming size and surely growing everyday, affecting a variety of sea life. The Ocean Cleanup has made great strides to take initiative in cleaning up the Great Pacific garbage patch, but their service is in beta and therefore must go through revision and update processes. While these updates are being made, perhaps there is a way to gather groups of people to volunteer help clean up the garbage patch.
